Our Legacy & Mission

The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) is the premier professional body for chemical engineering in India. Established in 1947, IIChE has spent over seven decades promoting the advancement of chemical engineering science and maintaining the highest professional standards.

The Vapi Regional Centre (VRC) was established to serve as the local face of this national mission. Our primary goal is to provide a collaborative platform for professional engineers, researchers, and students to navigate the complex challenges of the modern chemical industry—from process safety to digital transformation.

Vapi: The Chemical Hub of India

Vapi is strategically positioned as one of the most significant industrial clusters in Asia. The Vapi GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) is a powerhouse of chemical innovation, hosting over 1,500 active industrial units.

The region is a global leader in several key sectors:

  • Specialty Chemicals & Dyes: Accounting for a massive share of India's pigment and dye production.
  • Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API): A critical hub for the global pharmaceutical supply chain.
  • Agrochemicals: Facilitating agricultural growth through advanced pesticide and fertilizer manufacturing.
  • Pulp & Paper: Leveraging extensive manufacturing facilities to serve domestic and international markets.

Role of VRC in the Region

IIChE VRC acts as the technical bridge between these industries and academic excellence. We focus on:

  • Technical Empowerment: Hosting seminars on Industry 4.0, Green Chemistry, and advanced fabrication standards (ASME/API).
  • Environmental Stewardship: Collaborating with local bodies like the Vapi Green Enviro Ltd to promote sustainable waste management and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) practices.
  • Skill Development: Preparing the local workforce for hazardous area operations and robotics in chemical manufacturing.

We oversee and mentor several Student Chapters at prestigious technical institutions across the region.
